THE VICTORY LAP OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP SCURRYING AND LOVE THE CALM

video flashback of Buck Sargent circa August 2008

JAMming in Jamia: Strumming the West Baghdad Blues and bringing it to Jaish al Mahdi with some SRV northwest of the IZ.

Yes, I'm finally home again.

You know, I'm glad. I need the rest.

  1. Welcome home.

And that's some damn fine pickin'!

A nice shiny guitar, too. Are you a street musician there? You ain't exactly dressed for open mic night on the FOB.

  3. I spied an Iraqi teenager doing some fancy finger pickin' on that guitar of his while driving around in sector so I made our patrol pull over so I could get my gee-tar fix for the year.

If you've never tried to rock out in full battle rattle on a third world instrument while squished into a plastic chair on a sidewalk after a six month hiatus from playing, well, you don't know what you're missing.

And don't even ask me where my weapon was during all this. I couldn't tell you.

I know you put a smile on a lot of faces then with that short fix, and still are today!

  7. Welcome back! Great piece of double pickin boogie in full battle rattle for a guy who's a bit 'rusty' on his chops. Thanks for everything.

  9. I must admit I totally missed the Fugitive movie reference. But apparently it takes an Old Far like me to notice the DR. Strangelove reference: "HOW I LEARNED TO STOP SCURRYING AND LOVE THE CALM"

You must have a mind like a steel trap;-)
